I recently purchased and installed a TCI SuperStreetfighter C4. Unfortunately I installed it about 3 months after purchasing it and the warranty is only from date of purchase. Well After about 200 miles of driving I was putting around all day and the tranny wouldn't shift into 3rd. I'd get first, second, then it would just spin like it was in neutral. Then a few hundred yards down the road and second was gone also, 1st followed a few hundred yards more. At this point I was looking for a safe place to park. Well I now have now forward gears at all and I still have reverse, although that slipped once also, but came back. It's mated to a 400hp 351W that has been babied, as I'm breaking the combination in still. This engine/tranny hasn't seen over 3,000 grand yet. Any ideas on where the problem may lie? I'm thinking of ordering TCI's Master rebuild kit and rebuilding it, but don't know if this sounds more like a Valve body trouble. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I just fired it up and it has reverse but absolutely nothing in drive. I hear a whine, almost like a supercharger, from the tranny when you rev it in park, neutral, and 1,2,3rd(drive). Thanks again.
Just for an update. I've taken out the tranny and tore it down. The filter was clogged almost completely. The bands looked ok and all hard parts were in perfect working order. The pump is perfect, and I was very happy about that. I've ordered the rebuild kit from Summit and hopefully it was as simple as a clogged filter, but I don't want to take any chances.
Well the tranny is brand new. It has only about 200-250miles on it and I believe it's the material that is displaced during the break in. Like I said though, I'm going to replace all the clutches and bands just to be safe.
Well, it didn't turn out that well. Reverse is great, but all forward gears work with the wheels off the ground, unfotunately it'll barely crawls when it's on the street. It had nothing before I rebuilt it. I don't know what I missed. Maybe it's a valve body issue? I didn't do anything but clean and reinstall the valve body. I'm not happy right now, I think a tranny shop is the next stop.
