c6 vacuum modulator setup..

Okay so i'm having this guy i know that owns a transmission shop rebuild a c6 transmission.. He's putting a transgo stick shift in it so it's a manual valve body now.. But he told me that with the vacuum modulator you don't even hook up the vacuum line to it..? My dad has a c4 trans in a car and a reverse manual valve body.. and with the vacuum modulator theres the vacuum line running to it and all. So to my question.. Do you need the vacuum line going to the modulator on a trans with a manual valve body or no..?

For full manual operation, he is probably right. But with that said, my recollection of that kit is that if you leave it in drive it shifts normally, but firmly and the shifts are controlled by that vacuum diaphragm. My feeling are that you really don't want to shift it manually all of the time - like in traffic, so you need that modulator hooked up.

It's been a long time for me to recall as I installed that same basic kit in my '79 F350 in 1980 and the '76 F250 in 1978

IF you are installling the TransGo full manual shift kit into this C6 trans... the vacuum modulator does not need to be hooked up.

The trans will only shift when you move the shifter.
