i bought this s10 its a fine little truck. nothing special reg cab short box with the ol carbed 2.8l
163'k and kickin...so there not much power to the ol 6 and the carb is toast so i was thinking to do something crazy with it... i found a cadillac 500 w/o tranny for 350$ and i was thinkin since ive seen 454's in s10's with some mods i was thinkin hey why not a 500, theres more clearance since the 500's distributor is in the front and i could use electric fans and some stuff i have laying around.

since i work at chevrolet in my city now i can get a few discounts... any way just looking for in put and if someone has any advice...im not sure what i will do yet but hey i can dream.....

I've seen 500s in 80's G bodies, so there's probably enough room in an S10.

The Caddy engine weighs only a touch more than a small block chevy, but it is a tall deck monster. You might run into issues with the brake booster, but otherwise there should be plenty of room.

the guys at work think im silly but hell ive never seen anyone do it

The Caddy mounts are pretty easy. You can use a 348/409 mount like I did and modify it just a touch, or just use the Caddy mounts and modify your crossmember.

You'll want an oil pan from a RWD caddy. The FWD caddys are a front sump. I would just grab the th400 that comes with it. You could use one of several manuals as long as they're up to the challenge. A T56 modified with Viper guts will take it, and so will a TKO600 5 speed. A th350 will live behind a stock caddy in a light truck like that, but since they come originally equipped always with a th400, why not just do that. Overcome the urge to go overdrive. There is nothing wrong with them; a properly setup 700r4 or 200-4r will take all the abuse you can give it, but Caddys don't need overdrive. Their torque band is wide and large. A few little mods here and there like an Edelbrock intake and headers, and you're well over 500 lb-ft just off idle. Stick some 2.73s in the rear and you'll cruise all day on the highway at 1700 rpms, and have more torque than you can handle off the line. Plus, the good news is that when you do the aluminum intake and headers, you're actually lighter than an all-iron SBC. Expect 20 mpg (seriously) and absolutely bald tires :)

I would do it
I put one in my 79 GMC and love it. made my own motor mounts too...wasnt that tough.DEFINITELY use a BOP tranny though. I used a chevy TH400 with a trans adapter at first (cause I had a fresh built th400 sitting there) and cracked 3 flexplates till i put in the caddy TH400

Here is the link to the build..if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Although I realize techinspector1 is only trying to help and give you as much info as possible i would not buy one single single thing from http://cad500parts.com/

I have purchase cad parts through them and know of many other that have as well only to get the run around and not receive my/there purchases for WEEKS sometimes even months after it was suppose to arrive. There customer service is the worst I have ever experienced...EVER !!!!!

if you go on either of the caddy forums posted above and do a search for either cad500 or flashcraft (same people) you will see what i mean

check these out too
