There were several different Caddy flathead V8s...
Some had an aluminum crankcase and cast iron blocks bolted up to them, some had single plane cranks (very old ones, from the twenties and earlier) and the later ones were one-piece cast iron blocks.
Cadillac went to ohv V8s in '49, so there were no '50s flatheads.
A lot of the flatheads were used in military equipment, like searchlight generator sets etc, too.
