Post Cadillac 472 dilema

Ok so here sits my 1968 cadillac eldorado, front wheel drive ark. under 100 thousand on the odometer but one rusted out ugly looking creature. I wanna chop the front frame of course with the motor and drivetrain intact. Well the tricky part, what can I do with this oddity? Stuff it in the back of a fiero???, tercel? how about a rear motor dragstir?? anyone out there play with this theory of reworking the bigblock and drivetrain into something odd?? does it sound like a good idea or send the dinosaur to the scrap yard as a whole. your comments and suggestions welcomed

hey there! you could use the motor in somthing if you wanted to but as far as the front wheel drive goes ditch it. by the time you took out all the running gear you'd have a ton of iron to big and bulky to be usefull. i did a motor swap from an eldorado to a deville. i still think it was one of the worst ideas i ever had. i still have nightmares about it. took me an entire weekend to try and get the motor out of my eldo. all i did was bend the hoist! ended up junking a perfectly good 78 eldo baritz

That particular year model of 472ci is a pretty stout monster, 375hp if I remember correctly. Of course it is a low rpm motor, and big and heavy, works great for pulling stumps, etc. If you have a truck you need to make into a tow vehicle, you have a really good enginge for it. Coupled to the Caddy turbo 400, you got an earth mover. I agree about junking the front wheel drive stuff, the engine will still work with the other tranny. You can also swap oil pans, etc. There are some good web sites that have lots of info about the Caddy 472/500, may give you some insight what to do with it.

i would hang onto the engine. my moms 70 de ville hauls balls, also, if you want to do a rear disc brake conversion I THINK that the calipers from the fronts have parking brake linkage. very rare and desireable to the 4x4 truck crowd-like me, i had to settle for non-disc types because they wanted too much more for the eldo calipers, then you'ld have to order the mounting brakets for your rear-end application tho. also on the motor you'ld no doubt have to change the oil pan and pump to clear a regular vehicle and parts aint that cheap either. HRM had a small art. on hopping them up a coupla months back.
