Cadillac Ranch

Driving home today........stopped in...Had passed it before, a few years ago......Interesting art, if you want to call it that.......the graffiti is so thick, the paint has to be 1/2" thick.......

It's worth seeing if you are in the Amarillo, Texas area. I don't think I would go too far out of my way to see it though. Here is some information on it: Cadillac Ranch

We used to play the "Hilltop" at Columbus and then load up in one car and drive over there after the gig for the sure thing and ended up spending all our gig money - - - -

When my uncle retired from the plumbing business in Houston ,he bought a homestead (ranch.....?)about 20 miles north of La Grange and I spent several summers there. I had heard about this place and thought it was bs so I asked my uncle about it .He said yes it does exist . I was to go back to my home in Huntsville that Sunday ,so he says since I was going home he would take me down there.Well we went that Friday night ,we got to the front and there was a man and woman standing at the front of the place and they(the woman ) stopped us and wanted to know how old I was ( I was 13) my uncle told them that I was 18.Well when I could not produce any thing that proved I was 18 they would not let me in. We both pleaded with them to let me in,but the woman said "They was good friends with the law and they would get shut down if the law found out they had let a underage kid go in. Huh?.............My uncle told them "How does this matter?......This place is illegal any way "and mumbled something about "cops and kick backs"". Well the man unfold his arms and told us to leave and do not come back.
I never got to go back out there as my uncle passed away that winter and my aunt sold the place and moved to Dallas to live with her daughter.
I was in the Navy when Marvin Zindler (or was it Zinger?) stirred up all his BS and got the place closed. I told the guys that I was stationed with that I had been there..............just never told them they would not let me in a *****house because I was under age!!!!!!!
Thanks for the memories guys
Kenny
