Cam bearing wear question
Do the cam bearings need to be changed out with a cam swap, even if they are only used for about 5000 miles and are visually intact? I don't want to get in a situation with improper wear characteristics like using old rings in a freshly honed cylinder wall or old lifters on new cam lobes. It's not that I'm so cheap that I won't go buy new bearings, it's that I don't have the tools to remove the existing bearings myself. I would need to take the engine out of the car and down to the machine shop to get it done properly, as opposed to simply sliding a new cam in on the old bearings with the engine in the car. If it is one of those things that needs to be done once and done right I will of course replace them, but I thought I should see if it is really necessary first.
Your input is appreciated
