cam choice

Hey,

I have a 76 monte carlo w/ a 305, I just bought 58cc world s/r torquer heads, a holley manifold, and an edelbrock 525cfm carb. Its gonna be in a bunch of stop and go, and I want a bunch of torque to get a good jump after a green. What cam should I choose? Mileage is an issue and I don't want a real lopey idle. Thanks, Adam

I know a guy who put an Edelbrock performer cam and intake kit on his 305, and it turned out to be a nice strong little motor. Plus with the 170 cc runners that your world heads have, should make for a nice combo (IMO) good luck

I have a 305 with a Comp 268H cam 218/218 @ .050 w/ .454 lift. Those guy's at Comp told me it would have a lopey idle, but it really doesn't.

I would recommend the XE256H (212 218 @.050 dur .447 .454 lift). It is rated for 1000-5200 RPM. My guess is that that would be around 1300-5500 in a 305 assuming the heads and intake will make power there also, which they should.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm probably gonna go with the smaller cam, I really hate a real bad idle. - Adam
