Cam choice for sbc 305

What is a reasonable cam for a chevy stock 305.Im new to engine builds,My current setup is headers, dual exhaust and a edelbrock performer intake non egr for a 81 trans am. Thanks all. Also rear end gears is 2.56 and stock thm 350 trans.Like to keep it simple plan on building a 350 4-bolt in the future.REason for the cam in the stock 305 is to beef it up a bit and hopefully reuse cam for 350 build.

Edelbrock performer plus camshaft, or if you want to save a few bucks, the summit cam with the same specs. 204 in. 214 ex. Duration @ .050
.424 in. .442 ex. lift.

With either of the above choices would i be able to use current internals as springs, lifters and pistons.

The summit cam comes with lifters, however, you should always run the springs matched to the camshaft. This cam will run fine with stock lower compression engines. If you plan to get this cam, break it in with oil for diesel engines, since big brother took alot of the additives out of oil, it`s a much wiser choice. if you plan to reuse this cam in a 350 later, make sure you keep the lifter on the same lobe it ran on in the 305.

I have used that cam in a 305 before and used the stock springs with no problems and it ran pretty good for a 305. with your set up it should be ok. Perry.
