Last night I was checking the cam I put in my 351W. I was checking the location of the intake centerline. I found TDC by going to zero on a dial indicator on the piston and going down .050 and the other way .050 and then splitting the difference on the degree wheel. Is this accurate enough?

The cam says to install at 107 deg intake centerline. I got 108.5 deg. So, I tried to advance tha cam 4 deg, because that is the interval in my timing chain, and I got 101 degrees. Is it that the timing chain markings are that far off, or am I doing something wrong?

should be pretty close. The way I do it is by bolting a flat piece of steel stock across the top of the cylinder. The piece of steel has a bolt tapped in to it. I turn the piston clockwise and mark it on the degree wheel, then I turn it counter clockwise and mark that. divide the number of degrees in half and mark that on the wheel. take the steel stock off and rotate the crank to the middle mark on the degree wheel. That should be TDC
