cam and heads ?
In the process of building a 383 6" rod motor, not sure about the cam grind or heads. We have KB hyp. pistons at 10:9 to 1, was planning on 64cc Dart heads, need help on which choice of runners. Also have question about cam selection, " hydraulic only". Engine will be in a short chevy c10 with a 350 turbo, stall conv. and 373 rear gear. I would also like ideas on carb and intake choice. Only to be driven on sat. nite. thanks!!!!

If your going with the dart heads I would look into comp cams x-treme energy grinds...The 268 grind would proboly suit your needs, but if you dont mind sacrificing a little torque for peak horsepower the 274 will proboly provide 15 extra ponies on the top end..for a little more serious Hp, and Tq I would look into buying a Hdy Roller cam...the XR288HR spec out at 236/242 @ .050 and .520/.540 lift (along with a retrofit hdy roller lifters) would really wake up that 383...As Far as runner size is concerned, I would suggest 200cc runners or 215 with a good stall and rear gear..that is with the Iron heads...if you into Alum, AFR 195cc heads would be plenty...below 500hp Id go with a good dual plane intake...IE: performer RPM, Stealth....etc...for 500HP or above I like a Professional Products Single Plane or a Victor JR single plane..As you can tell I like comp cams grinds...others may have better grinds but personaly I have had good luck with comp cams xtream energy grinds....then again I could be way off...Id wait to see what the others have to say before I made a decision...
