That will not be too big of a cam for a 400 with 9 to 9.5:1 compression. I think it will work fine for you. We have run up to 230 duration in 400's for snow plowing and off road work with no negative issues. If you do have concerns feel free to give Dema a call at Elgin, he is a very, very nice guy. The number is (650) 364-2187.

With stock heads, intake, and rebuilder pistons that cam is perfect. You will not require stall with any cam under .488 lift. My 400 uses 302 deg duration but it's quite lumpy.

I have an SBC 400. My cam has 234o duration and .520" (with 1.6 rockers) and a 114o lobe. It idles at 16" of vacuum and has killer throttle response.

everything I was hearing around town I was kinda worried that the cam was way to big. We finally have the motor all in and ready to go, this morning we should be able to get it started and go have fun
