Camaro Door Striker Reinforcement Panel

I found a rot spot on my 1979 camaro after thoroughly going over it. I took out the vent louvers in the door jams. Then I stuck my arm down in to the inside of the quarter panel and I pressed on the back of the door jam (where the door striker is bolted on, except down near the bottom). This piece is rotted out, but it doesn't come through the front (theres two panels). Is this number 34 on this page http://www.nastyz28.com/tech/e-78smetal.html or is this the quarter panel? To me, it seems like the reinforcement panel goes behind the quarter panel, not in front like the image is showing. What are my options for repairing this? Also is this part available? I can't seem to find it. It's a bummer that I have to cut perfectly good quarter panels to fix this.

Looks like that would be the piece you need..I would get it in hand before doing any cutting as you may be able to see where to cut with minimal repair needed..hope you have good welding skills...

Good luck
Sam

If you are careful you can do this and not have to paint the outer quarter first you need the part in hand then make sure they are the same then if you look in the door jamb you can see the welds where the cage bolt is welded in take a 3/8 drill bit in a drill and drill the welds do not drill all the way through then take a hammer and a chisel and cut the rest apart from inside the quarter then fit the new one and weld through the old weld holes in the door jamb
