camaro seats

i will start by saying i know nothing about seats, or more specifically the mechanics of my seat latch. i have owed 2 3rd generation camaros and they both had this problem so im assuming its common. for whatever reason the latch on the seat that prevents the seat back from folding foward doesnt latch. this is nice when i am trying to put something in the back seat, but under braking when my seat leans foward, its not so nice. has anyone encountered this problem before. does anyone know of a quick fix, because i do planing on upgrading to the seats of a newer trans am, so i dont want to invest money in seat parts for my factory seats. it seems to me that this post is longer than it needs to be sorry.

Seat latch issue

Thought I'd take a stab (to quote O.J.) at what could be causing the problem. If I remember correctly, there is a hinged, weighted gizmo inside the mechanism that rocks forward under rapid decelleration. On the opposite end (on the other side of the pivot point), it interferes with the lift mechanism to keep it locked down. Think of how the pendulum on an old clock works, and maybe that will make more sense. Like I said, I might be wrong, but that is how I remember it working.

I had that problem with the original seats in my 86 Camaro.
The latch to tilt the seat back was inoperational but the seat back did lock on hard braking.
I got me a set of recovered 3rd gen seats in the 4th gen style from
Hawksthirdgenparts.com and they work just fine...................touch wood.

no the seat is not loose, its just the seat back. lol at least its not as bad as some jeep seats that disconect themselves from the mounting brackets. well malc i do plan on getting new seats, but for now im gonna stick with these. this car is a long way from being done, but i still drive it. hawks is a rip off, but they do have some stuff thats hard to find. well anyway i got work in the morning, goodnight gents.
