Camaro V6 To V8 Swap

How hard is it to swap out a 2.8 for a 5.0 or 5.7? Will the 5 speed tranny i have in the car now with the V6 bolt up to a V8? Does this get expensive to do? I would really appreciate any tips or advice anybody has.

Unless you have a complete V8 donor car don`t waste your time.
The tranny won`t bolt up, the crossmember has to be changed, the motor mounts have to be changed, the front coil springs have to be swapped for V8 models so the car doesn`t low ride in the front end, you`d either have to buy a adapter or get a original V8 tranny for the torque arm that goes from the rear to the tranny to bolt up. After all the nick naks you`ll have to buy and all the work, unless the car is in A-1 shape, it`s really not worth it.

GM makes a 3.4Lv6 that should bolt right in place, add a turbo and it'd be really neat. I wonder if a 3.8 would bolt in, it'd be kinda like a GrandNational.

I've done this swap on my bro's 83 firebird. We bought an iroc donor, less motor/trans. I just swapped the entire front k member out (6 bolts) for the mounts and springs. we use a th350 auto trans so the trans crossmember and driveshaft fit perfect, and I just fabbed up a bracket for the torque arm.

Went smooth really, we went from a carbed auto 2.8 to a carbed auto 350 so wiring wasn't much of an issue.

I just did a basic re-re on a 350, but 601 305 HO heads and alum int. q-jet and stock 3.23 2.8 gears, it ate my buddies lightning. boy was he choked.

plus it came with the good susp.
