Ok I have a 75 4 bolt main 350 engine that I'm building. I'm going to install flat top pistons with th 487x casting heads that have been milled down a little, roller rocker arms, an edelbrock victor gn intake manifold and edelbrock 1406 carb.. The question is would the comp cams xe-262 be a good cam for this setup and roughly what horsepower would the engine make? Thanks guys....
really mild cam for a vic jr intake i would say a perf rpm dual plane would make way more torque in the range of that camshaft. An xe284 or bigger would work well with that intake, but with the rest of your setup i think a dual plane intake would run best especially if this is run on the street
Yea I was wondering on the intake also. If i went with a domed piston instead of flat tops I'd gain more compression right? Then I could go with a bigger camshaft and use the victor intake couldnt I?
I have the same setup as you but i am going to use summit vortec heads
# nal-vortec zz5. I was told this might net 330 hp.I guess more cam would
increase hp but i like the mpg's and response i get from the xe262h-10
Dump the 487x heads if you can. A set of SR Torquer or Vortec heads would be a huge improvement. They're a relatively inexpensive upgrade as far as heads go and the smaller chambers will also bring compression up from those big chambered stock heads, eliminating the need for domed pistons. Vortecs require a different intake bolt pattern, the SR Torquers can be used with the original intake bolt pattern.
not really trying to build a screamer just something with a lil more power than stock. But I want it to run right and everything work well together. Its also kinda a low budget build so I don't wanna go buy a set of heads if I don't have to.

yes, but vortec heads require a special intake, rockers, and valve covers which adds to the price. Not a good deal if you already have those parts for a regular chevy head. And don't forget, vortecs need some extra machine work to run over 0.450 lift which also adds cost.
64 cc iron eagle darts (180cc intake runners) with flat tops is also a good way to go.
But, I sure your engine will run just fine with the old stock gm heads. Just not as good with better cylinder heads.
C'mon, there are numerous vortec buildups using flattops and Comp XE 268 cams making over 400 horsepower. Look at Comp's own website and power curves of the various cams and the XE 262 makes only 5-10 horsepower less
than the 268 but 5-10 more lb.ft. of torgue. These are all done with dual plane manifolds. I suggest you check out the Goodwrench build up in Chevy High Performance. You can find the articles on line.
So could I use a domed piston in this engine or should I just go flat tops?
