so the things i dont have yet are just the cam 4 real 4real. . the nova has a powerglide tranny 4 now but maybe a 700r4 joint in the future and the type of rear end where 1 tire pulls.

im just looking to get "Black Panther" 2 the point where she stops gettin whooped up on the street when someone tests me. and still be able to put 3 gallons in and drive where i want 2.

o yeah and my family is jii seasoned race car heads. my dad maybe knows how 2 do something with the heads. instead of gwappin it out at a machine shop. if tht means anything. cuz i would like compression up a bit. if the 305'z wont do it
Now if you listen closely and do your homework, you'll find out I am right with my information...If you go with the 750 carb, your going to loose low end TQ. Whereas, if you look at dyno results, it will be hard to beat a Quick Fuel 600cfm carb...Why, because unless your buying a new HP holley 750 carb, I can guarantee you, you'll have a bog when you mash the pedal to the metal. You'll get frustrated trying to figure out why and will finally sell it...One the other hand a 600 cfm quick fuel will give you the seat of the pants rocket lauch your looking for in a street machine. The 750cfm would be great if it was going to be built to haul above 6,000 rpm...But I do not think your going to do that that often...Most will be street light to street light and low end TQ is where it is at...The 600cfm will give high velocity to the heads and cam your intending to use...The 750 will fall on it's face off the line..I have seen this first hand when I was young....

P.S. I just saw that your going to use the Q-jet....THat is going to be a very good carb to use....so go for it~!

Get a th350 and a high stall converter. Don;t be shy on the converter or gears.

Buy a used Honda civic if you want gas mileage.

ive seen th350'z 4 pretty cheap 2 ive neva thought of them tho. . i always thought of the 700r4 cuz i hear they have overdrive.

and switching from an american muscle car 2 a honda civic is like trading your healthy child for a retarded baby with no face. . HELL NIGGIDY NAWWW.thtz dead

TH350's are almost bullet proof...add a 3.50 rear gear and go...373 will smoke alot of cars with the setup I suggest.....450 lift Intake .460ish Exhaust

Here is a bit tamer version of this basic 307 w ported 416 heads build.
Uses a 10" 3500 stall and 4.10 to 4.56 gears.
Use Lunati street performance solid lifter cam # 401A3LUN
272-282 238-248 .485 .503 112LSA Use lunati 73943 @1.70"

just a little tamer but still a barrel of fun.
Shift it around 6700 rpm or so.

www.lunaticams.com
Ditch the powerglide trans. Its going to be lame behind a 307.
Get a th350 and 10" 3500 high stall.

When I saw that you were buying a Q jet, they are a vacuum carb...They only take in the amount necessary and the small primaries will give the low speed punch I was talking about on launch...As speed picks up the large secondaries will catch up and only take in what the motor can take...Compared to a mechanical secondary, or a Holley vacuum secondary, you'll see a big difference with the Q jet...You will have great gas mileage and seat of the pants take offs...It will be almost like fuel injection~!

i kno nothing and i mean nothing about this stall converter thing. i know nothing about what it is or does??

car and cam

FYI;
Good pic of the Nova you sent...That was my last street rat car, back around 1978/79....That car got down....Mine was red...Also built a Dodge 440 with rock crusher 4 speed and 411 gears...Gobs of tq and the most wild car I ever drove....My first car was a 1967 Camaro with 327 350 hp 4 speed and 373 gears....Last motor I built was a 400 sbc with 5.7 rods and phase 2 chevy cam with 750 cfm carb....Bone breaker but not the tq of the 440! It would pull the wheels off the ground in 2nd gear and keep spinning the tires in 3rd gear...That was the scariest car I ever drove!

don;t wimp it down. Build it exactly as I layed out for you.
ya you want a high stall converter for a cammed up 307.

A stock torque converter will not work.
10" 3500 stall like the B&M #20425 or equal. (th-350) 4.10-4.56 gears.
The lil 307 wants to rev up. No the valves won;t hit with this cam or with the isky Z27 cam.
Get a qualified automotive machinist to help you with the cylinder head machining.
Its pretty straight forward basic stuff. Do the porting yourself first.

Over cammed for the heads~! .450/460 is max for those heads...Trust me...Unless your going with the old fuelie heads (461/462) and even with those heads max lift for best results is .500 lift...The 305 heads have too small of ports for that big of a cam....Parts mismatched give headaches, not fun from stop light to stoplight....That is what your looking for...Now if they were Vortec heads, go for that high of a cam...But those heads, not me...waste of money on the cam specs...bet you have fuel puddling at the bottom of the intake...not good~!

Whoa yeah those sound like some wild machines back in the day. I had a 400 sbc I was gonna buy 4 panther. But started thinkin like what am I gonna do with 400ft lbs of torque and 6.6l'z of motoe drinkin gas like a thirsty camel in the desert. So I decided 2 just rebuild this lil 2brl 307. 4 gas purposes and reliablity purposes. Tires in the air in 2nd gear is somethin 2 think of. (In amazement). But again thank yu and firebird 88 4 y'all insights y'all deff gave me some motivation 4 panther. Thanks yall
