well ya since you mentioned it now i'm just reading and trying to research on a good build using these vortec. bogie kinda scared me with what he said as far as my original thoughts were. i just wanted a mean motor over 400hp so now looking for builds that will be safe and last me a while unless i'm just missing something or being to paranoid. i still have'nt spent the money on the valve train.... its burning a hole in my pocket though waiting for me to decide lol i'm ready to go i just want to make sure i buy the right set up.

i just reread boogie's post and yes he is right, you certainly need a professional to do your port work, and not just any old machinest is a professional at porting, to be honest i dont think i would have the heads ported i would just look into the guides, valve seats and the bowl some, this is all you really need to do. with the vortecs you would be bettre off staying with a 1.250" spring but you can find these rated for up to around .550" lift you really don need to go with a 1.460" single or dual spring to get what you're looking for. with the machine work i mentioned before i would probably have the heads cut for 2.02/1.60 valve, i would go with a roller cam, probably a dual pattern or you could go with a larger ratio rocker on the exhuast side if you end up going with a single pattern cam. with a decent aftermarket or even stock GM cast crank some decent aftermarket rods and a set of speed pro or keith black hyper pistons keep your compression around 9.5:1 and a cam that wont turn the motor past 6000-6200rpm i think you should be right about were you want to be
