Can anyone give me the layout of 3" Collector Gasket???
Hello everyone,
I live in Iran and we don't have Performance Parts dealers around. Can anyone post the layout of a 3" Headder Collector gasket so that I can cut gaskets with it? Thanks a lot, Houman SS '70 |

hey HOUMAN
when in this situation you can make a gasket with a Ball peen hammer all you have to do is trace it out with the round part of the hammer and it will trace the pattern and cut it at the same time . But i don't know if regular old gasket material will hold up in this case on headers GOOD LUCK SR66

Houman, do you have any of the old gasket left? You can use it as a template. If I had one handy I'd scan it next to a scale and post it for you, maybe somebody else can..........
BTW I tried to send you an e-mail yesterday, it came back saying your message box was over it's limit. |

Hey Glenn,
Haya doin? I'm sure someone has one of those gaskets to scan me!? Don't you think so? Unfortunately, if I open up the flange in the exhaust shop, it will take me a couple of hours to go and cut one like the old one, and I can't leave the car in the exhaust shop for two hours you know. On the other hand I think the old one is completely demolished. This is what I guess. Now let's see if anyone will post me one or not. I'll have to clean up my mail box, I think it's full. I'll send you an e-mail as soon as I get it done. Take care, Houman |

If my memory serves me correctly, the 3", 3 bolt is 3" from bolt center to bolt center. Just draw a 3" triangle, then each point is the center of the 3/8" bolt hole. Stamp the holes out with some metal tubing, cut the center hole, install and then trim the outside.

At www.summitracing.com part number MRG-7177C is described as a 3-hole, 3"-diameter gasket with a 3-7/8" bolt circle, with 3/8" bolt holes.
You can lay it out with a compass. Make a 3" diameter circle, then a 3-7/8" circle with the same center. Leave the compass set for the larger circle, then put the pivot point of the compass at any point on the larger circle. Draw an arc that intersects the larger circle, then place the pivot on that intersection, then draw another arc, continuing around the circle. You will end up with six points on the outer circle that are exactly one-sixth of the way around the circle. Every second point will correspond to the center of a bolt hole. http://www.mathcats.com/crafts/treeofhexagons.html shows how to lay out the six points with the compass. |

Do you mean mail the gaskets by post?
No, I can manage to make one here, I just wanted to have a good copy. Thanks anyway. |
