Can anyone ID this part? carb maybe?

I was told its a carb but doesn't look like one to me unless its missing lot of parts Any idea what this is?

That`s not a carb, that`s a ignition system of some kind.

Looks like part of an old tractor ignition magneto drive housing, 1920's-1960-ish. It isn't a carb, for sure.

A carb may have mounted to it as part of a speed governor hookup, but it isn't a carb part per se.

hmmm I figured it was pretty old, found it on a property with a ton of old car parts and other misc stuff
