can it be done?

Howdy..I have recently been helping out a buddy of mine that is big into truck pulling..the 1/4 ton class and the biggest engine allowed is a 366. I'm looking to see if there is any stroker combos that would help us achieve this engine size that's not outrageously priced. We are wanting to build it out of a Chevrolet engine, basically looking for what bottom end combination will make 366 without blowing apart the first time we run it. keep in mind this will be turning at very high rpms thank you for your time.

FWIW a 350 bored 0.060" over =360.4cu in. If I'm not mistaken?

As far as the bottom end coming apart, it's more in the blueprinting, and wanting high rpm's from a Chevy, you're pretty restricted to a small block.

Download a displacement calculator and start throwing bore and stroke variables at it with different motors, bores and strokes readily available. Here are some stock SBC bore/stroke/rod numbers:

Bore Stroke Rod
305 = 3.736* 3.480 5.700
307 = 3.875* 3.250 5.700
327 = 4.000* 3.250 5.700
350 = 4.000* 3.480 5.700
400 = 4.125 3.750 5.565

Short of spending big $ on a custom stroke, you're pretty much stuck with the old standards. But...money talks.

If you're going to be wringing it out like you say, don't go nuts on the overbore and have the block sonic checked. Get a professional balance job, good parts and have fun.

is there any type of custom cranks? i'm just throwing out ideas...i know it would prolly be pricey but if not broken could be reused..i'm really wanting to take the rules to the limits..every lil bit is more power..thx..i'll try the calculator too

Take a good forged chevy crank and have it offset ground to reach the stroke required for the 366....you'll have to do the math. I found one years ago that had spun a bearing, got it for free. I took it to Castillo's Crankshaft in So. Cal., they welded the bad journal then offset ground all the rod journalsand it came out to something like 364 c.i.

Personally I think you're going to spend a lot of extra money for 6 c.i. Get a good 350 2 bolt block, bore it .060 and have GOOD splayed billet main caps installed. Take the extra money you save and buy the best cyl. heads you can afford....thats where the power is.

Why don't you get a big block 366 cu. in big truck motor. They have tons of low end torque without all the r's. I'd probably use the truck tranny too.

A 3 9/16" (3.562") stroke with a .030 over bore will yield 364 or so (rounded "up"). I believe there are a few aftermarket forgings out there with this stroke. Use a 6" rod and spin 'er on up!

use a 366 truck engine as was mentioned earlier...

You could use a 6.0 LQ4 out of a late model pickup which is 366 CI, and built on the LS architecture. With the 6 bolt cross bolted main caps they will stand some pretty serious rpm. Edelbrock makes a Performer RPM intake manifold to fit the LS engines that comes with a timing control module made by MSD that gives you the option of 6 timing curves, so running an LS carbureted is no problem. 6500 is nothing for those engines.
