can fan blades in a small house type fan go flat?
I have a fan going in a room on low for air circulation, and never gets turned off.. it's 1 of the wire framed 1's with the aluminum fan blades. been on since probably may..went to clean it earlier today and realised. it no longer blew air except out the sides but it was more like whipping the air from spinning.. held paper to the back and it has 0 suction.. this fan was nearly new and working great when I turned it on in may.. I know it's just a house fan but it's got me scratching my head.. could the blades have flattened out from the constant rotation?

Sounds like you got it nailed - - - if it ain't sucking and it ain't blowing but it's spinning then you don't have any pitch on the blades anymore. That's a first for me !

This is a bathroom type of exhaust fan? Did you check it when it was first used? A lot of the "less expensive" fans have little or no air movement. I've never heard of one with the blades flattening, it would seem the blades wouldn't flatten at an even rate and would be very noisy-out of balance. Ain't saying it can't be done though, one never knows, where was it made?
is it possible it is wired backwards?

Sounds to me like a Chinese (Wally World?) POS to me. If it has aluminum blades, they were possibly made from soft sheet aluminum material instead of some that has some temper. I have some sheet stuff that bends easily then some 6061-T6 that is a b@#$h to bend without annealing - and I have to do some of that today if I have torch gas.

it's a wire framed table top type fan.. it used to blow air to the point you could feel it for about 10-15' away.. it was a cheap fan I got from the Christmas Tree Shop, prolly made in China, it has developed an out of balance vibration also but not anything major.. guess I can just chock it up to blades too soft like Dave said.. sad thing is, I know my grandparents have a GE fan that was made in about 1940, and it still works/ they use it..
I'v got 1 of these in my shed that has a burnt up motor. the blades attach with a set screw, so I'll pull it apart and get those blades.. it'll save me $15 next year
