We have P-55 cores with 430 over the nose and 170 at the seat and no issues.

Wear is to be expected considering the nature of the beast. Pitting, however, comes from either improper break-in or a low quality piece to begin with. If a quality alloy is broken in properly it should never pit...

In a street engine, one should never need more than a flat. All out race engines are rebuilt regularly so either is fine... the rollers do offer advantages in a race engine not needed on a street engine.

This engine was broke in on a dyno with the inner springs removed according to the cutomer and he is using AFR heads. If a cam is going to fail during break in it would not make more then 2 or 3 pulls before seeing a HP loss

We have flat tappet cams runn for years and years with more spring pressures then that.

Butht e differance here is we use a much better cam core.

I have seen 2 Crane cores in a month with less the 500 miles on them and seeing alot of wear.

I will Rockwell test the cam core for hardness over a P-55 core, When I get a chance.

There is a reason the P-55 cam core cost more money of a standard cam core.

just some food for thought.....

regarding Lunati specifically,
companies that are "for sale" have been known to cut corners to make the P&L statement look really great (I saw it 5 times in my business career, made me sick!)

Holley sold Lunati in 07'

there are many possible "business plan" reasons why the new owners might be letting less than best product out the back door during their start up

Tim Goolsby at Bullet cams said that core use to be a decent core years ago and like everything else it to may not be a good as they use to be as somebody maybe cutting corners in quality.

cams

I can tell you that during the same time that the bad lifter deal was going down, i was checking all the cams as well as the lifters for hardness.

I never found one cam or lifter less then 55rc. I quit checking them...IMO that is not the reason for failures.
