can I trade a 350 for a 700-r4

want to trade out the thm 350 for a 700-r4 in a 81 silverado 4x4 is that possible?
keeping in mind the 700-r4 is out of a 2 wheel drive

I don't know about the 700s but on the TH350 the tailshaft on the 4x4 transmissions are a different length (shorter, I think) than the tailshafts on the 2wd transmissions.

If that's also the case with the 700 then you'd have to pull it apart and replace the tailshaft. On top of that you'll probably have to relocate your transmission crossmember and possibly swap out transfer case adapters. You may also have to shorten your rear driveshaft and lengthen your front driveshaft.

dimension wise the 700 and the 350 are the same size tranny the 700 was designed from the 350 case as matter fact the bottom end of a 350 is just like a 700
