Can I use a truck proportion value and my car.

Hi everyone, Happy Fourth !!!!!
I have 1969 disc brakes on my 1967 camaro. They were on the car when I started the restoration an I do not know if they worked then. Now that I am ready for the road I have been trying to get the brakes to work an having no luck. I bought a new Delco master cylinder for disc/drum and took off the small round proportion valve and also the block with the lines and switch in it. I used a 1980 proportion valve off a 3/4 ton GMC truck. I wanted to have everything in one place like a combination valve would do. But when I pump the brake it will build up but if I let the pressure off the peddle it goes back to no brakes, peddle to the floor. I bench bled the master cyl. I bled the lines on the car many times, checked for leaks and have found none. Could it be that I can't use the valve off the truck? The brakes are manual an not power. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Thanks Rich
I have all the parts that were on the brakes when I got the car. The 1967-70 valves could comprise of as many as three pieces and I wanted to get away from that with a one piece combination valve from 1971 to about the middle 80's. I guess using a truck combination valve will not work. That is the only thing that could be the cause of peddle pressure loss. I will change the combination valve and hope it works. Chuck
