can paint get old?

I picked up a gallon of dupont nason full urethane 400 series, it is likely a few years old, it needs to have activator added, I have that fresh. If the base has not frozen, has not settled all to the bottom, should I use it. I had plannned to use it as a first coat to save some on cost of the full urethane top coat I will be using. Is my cheapness going to get me in trouble? It is a very simmilar color. I opened the can and it looks fine. Bottom line...what is the self life of dupont nason fullthane base? thanks

Your in fine shape as two years old is not that old at all.

With your paint about the only thing that could go wrong from setting would be a pigment separation and either would be very unlikely unless there was a bad pigment to Begin with.
