EGR valves were not used until the early 70s....74, I think

327 came out in 62 and 307 in 68......Best check your engine numbers. If stock, its a 283

Value depends on the part no. The best ones are from dump trucks and school bus. 313, 467, 752

Only people that want these are left hand turn Hobby stock cars limited to a factory cast iron two bbl intake..

Easiest way to see the casting number is a mirror and a flashlight. Angle the mirror towards the back of the head and point the flashlight at the mirror.
Easy to read that way.

Simple it's called Fuel economy! That and a natural speed governor. Those engines were designed to make low end power, no need to rev them up past 2800 rpm, thus no need for four bbl carb.

I worked on and drove some of those old busses. Sound like they are going to explode at 3200 rpm..

there was no such thing as a big motor in the late 50's and early sixty's
Most of the trucks had a six or a 283.. and were geared low ..
no need for a big motor ..
used the same amount of gas empty or loaded or very little difference anyway.
When you were in high gear , yuo were looking for one more gear ..
even alot of 69 -70 one tons came with the six and a bow low four speed .
Kept the motor out of a 59 three ton and it was a 283
