cant get 350 to run right help please

Ok everyone, I started to live with the little "knock" from my other post, it would sometimes do it and other times not.
Here's the new problem, yesterday I was driving around, not pushing it or anything, and it was running great with no weird noises or running problems at all, until I pull into a gas station and it dies. Pop the hood and theres gas coming from the top of the accelerator pump, from the sides of the carb, just everywhere. So I pick up this eddy 1407, I know a bit big but it was cheap from a friend, got the adaptor, bolted everything on and it runs but shakes very badly, turn the mixture screws all the way in it dies, have had the out in intervals all the way to 2 1/2 turns and no better. Now, if I cover the top with my hands, rpms go up and it smoother out, and as soon as I move my hands right back to low and very shakey. I sprayed starter fluid around the base and what not and no change. What could be causing this? And any idea how my quadrajet could all the sudden go from running. Great to flooding out and spuing gas?
Thanks

major vacum leak when you cover the carb you are only gettin air from the vacum leak, and the mixture is about correct, open up the carb cover and you get major air and bit time lean. check for the pvc system leaking or the vacum booster leaking, both are at the base of the carb with fittings

Loaded on the engine in gear, unloaded in park. This is a lean misfire
