Can't restart engine Weak spark?

Ok we were having difficulty getting our project car to idle. 383 with big cam 650 demon ported world products heads. So one of the things we decided to try was to use a vacuum can off of a 1977 305. comes it at like 3-5 inches of vacuuum. After installing the vacuum can and a new alternator cause the other one was draining the battery dry when the car was turned off.

Tried to start the engine and give it another round of tunning. Engine cranks and seems to want to fire but it will not start. Checked the coil to the battery wire. Connection is good and there is 13 volts going to the coil.

Tried checking the spark by holding spark plug against ground while still plugged into the wire and cranking the engine. There was no spark in the plug gap. Tried screwdriver in plug wire and holding against ground I got an orange colored spark but I had to hold the wire within a 1/16 or an inch to get it to spark.

Changed cap, Rotor and coil did same test same reults. weak spark.

What do I do next?????

Where do I find these ground threads I have searched and turn up nothing.

I read someone elses thread that said they were having a hard time starting there engine and they installed hotter plugs and it started right up.

Taking this as a que I changed the spark plugs no change in heat range just fresh clean plugs and yup she started right up.
