my buddy is having a problem with his car not starting. today he went out driving and he ran the gas tank dry. so he put gas in it and it wouldnt start so by him trying to start it so much and his starter getting really hot he burned up the starter so he put a new one in and got some more gas. we tried starting it and it still wont so we put gas in the throttle body injection and it would start for like a second then it would die. we tried to see if gas was coming out of the injectors and it seemed to spray a little and we could feel air come out of them. but the car wont start what would cause this? a relay switch when the gas tank goes dry we have no idea, sugar in his old gas i dont know?
Find the schrader valve on the fuel line or the pressure regulator. I forget where it is. It looks like a tire valve stem. Push it open and bleed the air out of it. Turn the switch on so the fuel pump will be on. When you see fuel come out it's ready to fire. If you don't then you need to look further down the line for the problem.
have a listen for the fuel pump to run when you turn the key on. it should run for 2-5 sec. with the key on (not start). my guess is that the pump is knackered. not an uncommon result after the tank is run dry.
if i remember correctly, the tbi chevs didn't have a schrader valve test port, you had to hook in where the fuel filter connected into the lines.
we took off the one side of the fuel filter line to see if fuel was coming in and it came pouring out and then there is a black cylinder shape box on the front left side by the front left headlight it has a hole on it that says air but we didnt know what it was and then fuel lines running to the tbi. we heard the pump working when we turned the key but no start and when we added gas to the tbi it would start for like 3 seconds. the car is a 1993 caprice 350 v8 old police squad still has working spot light.
try findin the relay, and jumping pins 87 and 30 with a wire. this should make the pump turn on. then try starting the car. also look in the underhood fuse box for a blown ecm fuse.
ok they looked for a pressure release valve and a relay and could not find anything so they had to have it towed and the towing company is going to look at it. idk mabe their dumb and dont know where to look but they said they looked everywhere maybe just didnt find it because they dont know what it looks like
If your Sure your fuel pressure is good, Filters not clogged, (test with a pressure/Volume Gauge) Then look at the fuse panel for a fuse marked INJ, Check that, you may also want to check computer fuse, and ECM also while your down there.(although they should be good as it runs on bottle-fed life-support)
If those aren't bad, check the injectors for 12 volts on one side, and with a noid (<---sp?) light to see that you are getting a negative 3.5 to 5 volt (I think, not sure, check your exact specs for voltage) pulse there (DO no ground these if they appear not to have a ground! You'll burn them up!)
