Car club question...

Ok, so my buddy and I are starting a car club here in Springfield. I have Eighty Fo' (1984 Chevrolet C10 Pickup) and he has a 1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse. We know of a couple other people that want in the club too, but I don't know what they drive. The thing is, I know they don't have hot rods Well, how do you guys feel about a car club that allows pretty much any car? This is an organized club with meets and and a council, however the club is pretty much just for people to get together and have fun without doing illegal stuff. Oh, and my truck is named Eighty Fo' because I used to live in a black neighborhood before I got my house in Republic and they named it that...

If you are going to have an open club and get together just for fun and show off your individual projects, what difference does it make as to what make or model vehicle the members have? Good luck and good wishes for success of your club.

Personally I don't consider either of those vehicles as hotrods. Your "Eighty Fo" is the closest and the other would be an import tuner. In order for it to be a hotrod it needs to be pre World War II. So, it would be pretty much an open club already. My 2 cents only.

having been in one that collapsed I will give you this advice, start small. You and your buddy just start cruising maybe get a decal or plaque and do it that way. Other people want to join then make them go through a trial period cause for a while we let people in without getting to know them that well and it led to the clubs demise

You might also talk to some of the other car clubs in your area to find out how they started and how they are organized. Since there is money involved, there must be some legalities involved as well. I know there are several car/truck clubs in the Springfield/Branson area. I am in one.

Most of the clubs have a specific type of vehicle, but an open one would have a better chance of gaining members. Car clubs are work, thats why they elect officers to spread the work around. There are meetings, cruises, shows, and fund raisers to organize.

Yep, what Brian said. Im the president of a local club. it is alot of work, you have to know how to deligate. There are a couple clubs around here that are open clubs....(meaning open to alot of diiferant types of vehicles) but they are both reserved for cars& trucks 25 years or older.
