Car from my past is being featured in Muscle Car Mag.

My brother called me today to tell me his 65 Gran Sport that he and I did a frame off restoration on is going to be featured in Muscle Car Magazine. We hadn't seen the car since he sold it about 1988. It looks like the day we finished it! We put our heart and soul into that car, we had a ton and a half of passion in those days and it showed in that car, it was like brand new. My brother searched out NOS stuff, holy crap there was a ton of NOS stuff! We are talking all the power window motors, every switch and guage, emblems, lenses, my God he found stuff. The fan shroud (65-66 Gran Sport A/C cars only) was NOS and one of two he bought the other one sold to a repro company, they pulled the mould off of that the repro ones you can buy today.

We are talking RESTORED, down to all new studs and rebuilt rear end, EVERY SINGLE thing was rebuilt on this car, even the speedometer! It was a NEW 1965 Gran Sport.

Cool thing is, the owner contacted my brother who is now going to contribute to the article.

Brian

401 with 2 4bbls?
Man, that's purty. It makes me miss my 67 GS400. My 66 Special 'vert isn't nearly as quick but it is so comfortable.

If you had been following the trivia thread in the lounge you would know that is a "400" as GM didn't allow anything bigger than a 400 CID in the A body.

But yes, other than parts books it is a "401" with a four speed, one of 598 made.

I think the nailhead looks a lot better than the 400 and then 455 I had in my 67 GS.

Dan, mine hasn't gotten anywhere! Between the kids and me just being too darn tired when I get home, next to nothing has been done.

Cyclops, yeah the nailhead is one of the most "easy to look at" motors ever. They look like they were designed by engineer AND a body designer together.

Cole, I will post it when it's released. He is also going to be in an issue of "Hot Rod Deluxe" in an engine build (nailhead of course) article in an up coming issue as well. I remember when my brother and I would scout thru pages of the show to see if our car was caught in the back ground of a shot.

Then after his car was featured, we would sch-luff off those shots and it had to be OF the car. Now he has been in a number of them with full features and articles on building motors and what not and he is a big shot.

I'm proud of him!

Brian

Brian.....wow what a beautiful job.....I cant imagine how hard your brother worked at finding all those NOS parts.....now thats a REAL restoration. Some of us have it easy with all the offshore parts today. That thing is a museum piece....it shouldnt be breathed on ;-).
