Car trailer building questions...
I know this is the engine board, but there isn't a trailer board, and this one seems to get the most traffic.
OK, I've obtained a couple mobile home axles. Looking to build an enclosed car trailer about 28-30' long. Anyone know where I might find laws on widths, lengths, licensing, tongue weight, etc on trailers? I'm from Wisconsin by the way. Also, anyone know of design plans for these things or am I on my own here? Thanks, Barb [ July 29, 2002: Message edited by: BarbWire ]</p> |
I don't know the law in Wis. but I would think that no matter what state you're from, the State Department of public Safety should be the most reliable source of information. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the suggestion Al. I don't see them listed on the web, but I'll keep looking.

Your average width on a trailer is 8' but I've seen some as wide as 8'6".
|
So if the outside width on the tires on these axles is 9'4", I'm gonna run into trouble eh?

Anything over 8.5' is gonna get you into trouble.
My company has to truck stuff all over the world and one thing is always the same - 8.5'! We use 8' wide shipping containers so it is not a problem but every contract I've ever seen stipulates 8.5' as a maximum trucking width. Good Luck! |
