car trailer-surge brakes

I have surge brakes (hydraulic) on my car trailer. Does anyone know how to properly bleed them? I do not have a vac. bleeder...is that the only way?
Thanks,
Rick

My trailer has a lever at the front of the tounge the pushes the rod on the master cylinder. You could have someone work this lever much the same as a brake pedal. Pump and hold while you loosen the bleeder valve. Could do it yourself by holding the lever with a bungi cord.

I have one of the cheaper Mighty Vacs that I loan to those that have a habit of being slow to return. Think it was only about $20.00. Here is a selction that ranges from $29.99 on up. http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&keyw...link%5Fcode=qs

Pressure bleeding through the fill port is a good way too. You could always try gravity bleeding, but you'd have to get the tongue a bit higher to make it work.

Do a search here for gravity+bleeding and you'll find some threads about that.

Later, mikey

Take a piece of 1/4" steel plate and glue a piece of sheet rubber as a gasket. Drill a hole in the center and tap it for an NPT air hose fitting. Clamp the steel on to the master cylinder, set your regulator for about 3-5 psi and hook it up. Best one-man bleeding I've ever done.
