i glued my base spacer for now just to get it back running ,, is there a gasket aslo that goes on and if so were ? on top of the base spacer ?

A carburetor gasket goes on top of the intake, then the spacer, and then another gasket and the carburetor.

Well got it all together and al is going well, , i did a gasket below and on top and ideling great i will tune it tomm but i was getting about 18 on my vac gauge is that good, i might be able to get more

Earlier on your other thread I thought the vacuum leak was the gasket between the intake manifold and head, not the carb gasket.

Glad to hear you got it idling right and pulling a lot of vacuum- 18 in/Hg of vacuum is good.

When you can, you might want to look into recurving the distributor. That one thing can add a lot of performance if it's still set up stock. You may even eke out a bit more vacuum.

More on setting up a performance advance curve can be seen here. The article was originally written w/the GM HEI in mind, but the info on timing is basically universal w/the exception of the exact numbers for initial and total timing.

Exact timing numbers can vary from engine to engine depending on the displacement, cam timing, and specific parts used in the engine like carb, intake type, boosted or naturally aspirated, etc., as well as weight, gearing, fuel quality, ambient conditions and many other things that need to be considered.

It was the spacer that had a crack i used some 2 part epoxy for now till mine comes in but for now its doing great,, 1 thing i didnt see the vac adavance moving, it was until i losen the small screw and moved the dizzy , could i have done something cause it to now move? anyway i will chick it tomm

Be sure the vacuum line is hooked up and not leaking. Look for any obvious signs of binding, and be sure the vacuum can didn't fail. If the diaphragm gave up the ghost, the vacuum advance is dead. There are replacements still being reproduced. Anyway I'm sure the problem will be obvious once you get a good look at it.

A nice addition would be an HEI distributor like Summit's p/n 850042 . A distributor from a Chevy 250 inline can be modified to work, too. The Pertronix conversion you have is fine as long as the distributor itself is still tight.

I dont have a can mine runs stright from carb to dizzy, i sucked on the line at the carb and nothing happen, i did check the line unhooked totaly and it was good sounds like the diaphragm is bad?

I need to clarify. The can I was talking about is the vacuum advance unit itself:



The vacuum advance unit should hold a vacuum and the arm should move when vacuum is applied. If it holds a vacuum but the arm doesn't retract the linkage could be binding.

Do you have diagrams of the vac lines, like the 1 that runs from the intake, does it run to the mod valve on tranny and thats it? ?

Sorry, no diagram. But that's right as best I can remember, the factory ran the line to the modulator from the intake, with nothing else attached to the vacuum line.

Looks like you might need to mail order an advance unit, then?
