Carb/intake manifold swap 305 Chev

I am in a mess. I installed a brand new rebuilt 305 in my 1977 El Camino. I went to have it smogged and oh boy!! The smog station would not pass it because the 1977 El Camino came out with a 305 with ONLY a 2 barrel carb. This engine had a 4 barrel carb on it and so I just put the old one back on the rebuilt engine. I guess I need to take the 4 barrel back off and go back to the 2 barrel setup!! I can't find a 2 barrel intake manifold!! Any suggestions out there?

Yeah....keep looking! Edelbrock has a victor Jr. sportsman 2 bbl #2901 but it's for race applications (no EGR). Your best bet is in the wrecking yards.
You will have to find the original stock 2 bbl for emissions purposes.

Gotta love California smog law's.

CA smog laws.....

Hard to believe CA smog laws... would not pass because it has a different carb?
Shouldn't the standard be how much smog comes out the tailpipe? Heck your's might have less than with an original carb !
Oh well I guess there might be some benefits to living in CA, but not this....

Only advantage to living in Ca. is lot's of hot ladies and the beach is free fun.

The adapter won't work because everything has to be the way it came from the factory for that year. It's a conspiracy to rid the hwy's of older cars.

If you move to Maricopa County (Phoenix) or Pima County (Tucson), you will still have to deal with the Emissions Nazis for anything '67 or newer. All other counties are emissions-free as far as I know.

I live in Mass. but we spend out winters in AZ (snowbirds!)... I understand there are parts of AZ (outside of the cities) where no smog inspection is needed.

Yep, in an ideal, common-sense world, it would be that way.
