1406 should work fine. What idle problem are you having?

re: carb and intake question

carb wont idle in gear unless i up the idle screw to about 650 to 700 rpms which is about 1000 rpms in park.. if i idle the carb down to about 650 to 700 rpms in park it dont sound right ..the motor jumps around and you can just tell its not running smooth at all...since the last time we talked i've changed intake gaskets i've changed jets rods ,carb spacers ..lol..you name it..i can drive the car anywhere with no troubles as long as i idle it up so it will not die in gear.i;ve even went out and bought a new holley and it done the same thing..i thought maybe it was just the wrong intake and carb combo..i had a 88 chevy pickup with the same intake and carb and it ran fine(305sbc)

re: carb and intake question

Sounds like the transmission is over loading the engine when in gear. Wrong TV cable adjustment, or an internal transmission pressure problem.

re: carb and intake question

Try disconnecting the TV cable and how does it idle in gear? What jets and metering rods do you have in it?

re: carb and intake question

right now i got it set like it came new...098 primary...095 secondary.. .075" x .047" rods...orange (5") springs.. i've had the trans kickdown cable completly off the carb and still idles bad..i put it back and it works .i can floor it and the trans does kick down to lower gear. i've went with .095 jets primarys and .098 jets secondarys and it was worse so i put it back the way i had it..i have used every rod i have in the cal.kit and i've used every spring and no better..i mean the carb dont hesitate or bog down ..it takes gas good and never stands on its face ...i've even changed the needles and seats with new ones ...i've used a vac. gauge to set the mix screws and i get a steady 15 and i can't get more right now the mix screws are about 1.5 turns out.. i still get 16hg at intake vaccum but i was told that was normal for the cam i have .. (hydraulic flat tappet 68-81 L-46 and L-82 Corvette. The duration at lash point in degrees (intake/exhaust) is 312/312; duration at .050" tappet lift (intake/exhaust) is 222/222 and maximum lift with 1.5:1 rocker ratio (intake/exhaust) is 450/460. Valve lash is zero/zero and lobe centerline is 114 degrees.) this is the cam i have
