carb spacer/pcv intake port???

so i'm contemplating a phenolic spacer to insulate my performer carb from this hot as hades aluminum intake in this texas heat. I'm not having any trouble, but i have noticed that after running around in the daytime for a while, that on restart, i have to let it spin over a few times to get fuel pressure back up. i have a clear filter off the mechanical fuel pump. in the heat, it will drain to almost empty. when it's cool, it holds fuel in it. doesn't matter what the fuel level in the tank is, does it full and low... is there something wrong with the fuel pump letting it drain back down? is the extra heat into the carb causing percolation and that is the problem?

so i guess my question was, could i drill and tap the spacer for my pcv line, and cap off the one on the carb for kleanliness sake? I don't see why not...?????...

but now i'm wondering if i do have a problem......
