carburetor problems ???

I recently installed a 350 goodwench engine in place of another tired 350 into my 65 Rambler. I reused all of the other bolt-on parts from the old engine to the new one. In the last week that I have been finally able to drive it, I have noticed several things that I think are carb related. The car has a turbo 350 trans and when it shifts gears, the engine seems to fall on it's face(hesitates)not real bad, you can barely feel it,but enough that it's driving me crazy. Also when cruising at a steady speed I feel a surging, not real bad,but annoying. The engine has a performer manifold,600 Holley/w vac. secondaries, and a stock points dist./w accel coil. The only thing I didn't do was replace the carb and spacer gaskets.Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Stanjr41
