carb trouble

well guys, I still haven't got it completely lined out, but I do now think that part of my problem is with the electric choke. Not all of it but some. For some reason if i hold the choke butterfly 1/2 way closed by hand the engine runs right, it's smooth, idle doesn't fluctuate, and if i push the gas pedal it doesn't stay revved up, it returns to an idle like its supposed to.

This is the first electric choke i have ever used. I accidently hooked it up wrong at first. I hooked it up to 12v constant rather than with the ignition. I thought it was with the ignition but i ran the wire to the fuse panel to an ignition hole and didn't check it with a test light before doing so. The next morning (about 12 hours later) i came back to the garage and noticed that the carb choke was warm and the car hadn't been running. Thats when i realized that i pluged it into the wrong slot on the fuse panel accidently. Is it possible that i could have burnt something up cuz i didn't notice these problems before that either, but i also didn't have the choke hooked up at all.
