Cut pile carpet means one end of all the fibers is embedded in the carpet backing, and the other ends of the fibers are cut off to make them all level. Loop type carpet is made up of strands of fiber which are all the same length, and both ends of those fibers are embedded in the carpet backing. It is easier to clean loop type carpet, but it is also easier to "catch" the loops on something. Sand and other debris goes down to the bottom of loop type carpet easier where it stays until you vacuum it out. Other than that, with the new man-made fibers they use now, they are about the same durability-wise, especially in a car that is not a daily driver.

No one lives forever, the trick is creating something that will.
