carter AFB ... any tips?

I have a Carter AFB in my Cad. SDV 1964, which i dont really like ...

Some Cadīs of the same year model has Rochester Q-jet ...

Is that a better or worse carb.?

Is there any other good replacement carbs, or should i keep the AFB?

I mean, they still build them (Edelbrock) so they cant be that bad?

From my experience, the Carter AFB was the most dependable trouble free carb i've owned. Had 2 on both trucks. Mine went 140,000 with not so much as a rebuild. I had the 600 on each.

After rebuilding both engines, we decided to go with the Q-jets. The Q-jets have a higher cfm rating so they do run better. Unless you plan on buying a NEW Q-jet, finding a good core is hard as they are now pretty old and hard to find in good condition. eBay is loaded with Q-jets but you don't know what shape the throttle plate and shaft is in, so a re-bush may be in order.
