carter afb comp carb hose connections

I have a carter afb competition carb with two hose connections on the top plate drivers side.. The rear one feeds the float bowl. what is the front hose connection used for?? There is a lower front connection I assume is for vacuum.

Both may be for Bowl vents, 1-in, 1-out. Smog setup for fumes? Just a guess.
I remember some of the old 4010/4011 Holley carbs for Dodge's had large vent tubes on front & rear.

The top back left corner is for fuel, any other on top are vents do not plug. The front lower in the middle is a vacumn port for pcv valve in valve cover. The same is usually in the back but may have a plug and is for brake booster.
