Carter AFB Competition Series 9755S tuning

Help, I have a carter carb mounted on a 1973 corvette with a 454, automatic.

The car seems to run very rich. The exhaust smells strongly of unburnt fuel, and when punched it sends out a cloud of smoke. It also bogs when accelerating and is hard to maintain at idle.

Any ideas on how to tune the air fuel mixture or if this is even a good application for the engine/transmission?

Buy a Carter Strip Kit. It contains many different jets and needles to dial in the carb. I don't think it's available new anymore, but have provided a link to a kit for sale......
Also, buy a rebuild kit at the local NAPA auto parts store or online and rebuild the carb using this publication.....
Also, refer to this owner's manual for the Edelbrock Performer. The Performer is a knock-off of the Carter AFB, so all tuning procedures would be the same....
Strip Kit for sale....
Also, here's a calibration kit from Edelbrock if you can't get the Carter Strip Kit. It is nowhere as complete as the Carter Kit, but it's better than nothing.....
