I have a couple of set of heads that I cant figure out what head to use.I have a set of 305 4-barrel heads that I have had alot of good luck with(as long as I hog them out)& I have a set of 327 big plug head that been ported with screw in studs, but I never have used them type. The 305 works great on my little rods I played with in the past.Has anyone used both heads?

i think the 327 heads would have about the same size chamber and maybe bigger valves so i'd use them if so. i know 305 heads worked great on my 327 i had tho so maybe there isnt much dif.. they both have 1.94? 64cc's?

Do you know the chamber sizes? The 305s are probably 58-60cc. The 327s could be anywhere from 64-76cc, depending on their original use. What are the casting numbers? If you put a large chamber on your 305 you'll lose a lot of compression.

Im going to use the heads on a 350 or 400.Just getting started on this project. The 327 heads have 2.02 & the 305 has 1.94.The 327 hasnt any bolt holes for power steering, but I was wondering about hole shot performance.I like the flow on the 305 heads & was wondering if the 327 heads had a flow as good?

What are the casting numbers? If you put 305 heads on a 400 your compression will be out of sight! The 327 heads sound like good heavy castings from what you describe. The 305s are light castings. You can tell the difference by looking at the edge of the head below the spark plug holes. Heavy heads' edge will straight with one small indentation. A light casting edge more or less follows the bolt holes in and out.
