Hello all,
this maybe a crazy one... but I am looking for info on a 15 degree - ls6 style head to use on a iron gen3 block. Our local track has a few very few restrictions on engines, except it must be all cast iron, (heads and engine).
So i am looking at all options, there is much advantage to 15 v. 23 that it sparked my interest. don't get me wrong, i love the big ol' rompy (1000 rpm idle 6in. vac.) engines that i have now, but i want to try some of newer technology.
Same rules we have, I believe one or two years of the 6.0 truck engine was all iron. should make good power and live with the way the bottom end is set up.Check 99-01 trucks I think.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe all regular production Gen III/IV engines have 15 degree valve angles. And I think the new LS7 engines have a either a 12 or 13 degree design. I'm pretty sure they left the 23 degree heads behind when they went to the new engines.
And yes, there were a couple years where the pickups used iron heads. I know my '00 6.0 has iron heads on it and possibly the '01s too. I'm not exactly sure when they started going to aluminum.
I work at a used car dealership and we have a half dozen or so late model gm trucks and vans i'll check under the hood tomorrow and tell ya what I find. I kinda of think all trucks have iron heads.
thanks ahead rippin ron,
That would be a great help.
Not many of those trucks make it to the u-pull its yet.
I know that the new trucks lq9 (and lq4 i think) 6.0 engines are cast blocks with aluminum 15 degree heads.
I think the first 6.0 truck engines would be the iron ones.
As of yet, i do not have any. That will change soon, when we can get our hands on a couple of gen iii cast truck blocks. I am just stepping into the newer blocks and looking for info. I have already learned a bunch since starting this thread. Can't wait to try em on the track.
