cast iron powerglide

My 55 cast iron power glide still leaks, it leak's from the selector shaft even though i have a new seal in it. Has anyone herd of a metal clad seal to replace the rubber seal? It seam's to be leaking at the housing, not the shaft Also i believe the previous owner put in another dipstick witch might be different than the origional stick, does anyone know how to calabrate the oil levil, becuse it chatter's and slip's a little in reverse untill the engine rpm's are raised. With the oil at the full mark my reverse line presure is low and the gauge flicker's like it's sucking air. If i put 1.5 more quart's of dexron it it the presure is higher and it's better in reverse, but i don't wanna over fill it. c-ya sling.

Take your dipstick to a boneyard and compare it with the correct one, if it's different then purchase the correct one or mark you existing correctly.

You say "it seems to be leaking at the housing" which says to me that your not sure. As with any leak that your not certain you know where it is coming from you should pressure wash it clean and then run it a bit. This will help you identify for sure where the leak is.

Dear lonestar, when i say it's leaking at the housing. I shoud of said it's leaking around where the seal fit's into the case not around the selector shaft. as far as the dipstick goes, i have a 58 glide and i'll match it uo and mark it accordingly. c-ya sling
