casting number 3970010

i have found the cast number on the block and looked it up but the number corresponds with the 302, 327, and the 350 but i don't know how to find the ci for the block. So can anyone please tell me where to look at on the block or any other way that i can determine the ci.

Thanks

Use the pad stamped numbers with the letter codes to tell HP size, CI, application & years

Edit, the pad with # is on the block front face right where the head fits to block. Passenger side.

re: casting number 3970010

You'd have to get the casting number off the crankshaft. That'll narrow it down for you. If you don't have a crank, put in whichever one you want. Strokes would be 3"-302, 3.25"-327, 3.48"-350; they're all 4" bores.

The suffix code is on the passengers side head deck on the block. It`ll be on a pad right in front of the head.

re: 3970010

Can you post the id letters and numbers that you see on the engine block on the the small extension of the block surface just below and ahead of the head on the passenger side. I have some books that might reveal some info re: the year of the engine. BTW my own 383 stroker has a number that I cannot seem to find anywhere yet. V0424ABT. I only know that the V stands for Flint Engine Manufacturing department of GM. Maybe someone could figure out what the ABT stands for.............thx ed

You may have to remove the alternator to get to the numbers on the front passenger side of the block. My bet is that you have a 350, as this was more commonly casted "010" than the rest.

Thanks that worked i was able to find the number and verify that it is a 350 and the year is 1973. my number is VO605TJZ

tenfords
I looked up your number but there is not any number that corresponds with your ABT. the only thing i can tell you is your motor was on the assembly line on April 24 but cant get the year or the ci size until you get the correct suffix numbers. Maybe it is a ABF, or something i don't know. As you all ready now the V is the plan code and the O605 is the assembly date and the TJZ is the suffix code.

can some on tell me how to determine weather the moter is a 4 bolt or a 2 bolt. is this something that i can determine with the moter still in the car?

Thanks

I did a search and there are others that also have the ABT code that are positively 350`s. Only there is no information on what vehicles these engines came in. But there are still many a small block out there that have suffix codes yet to be decoded.

Yes it is a 4 bolt. Every suffix code that starts with T is a 4 bolt truck motor.
