Casting Numbers

Hey, I just bought a 350 block with the casting number 010-020-43, but I can't seem to find that casting number on any website and I want to know the year of the engine before I proceed on rebuilding it. Anybody know how to find this out?

www.Mortec.com should be able to answer most of your questions. However, that number you provided doesn't look like a block casting number for a SBC. Could be a Ford # possibly but doesn't ring a bell. You should be looking for a 6 or 7 digit number usually starting with a 1 or 3. What did the motor come out of and how old is it?

casting number

I bought it off a guy in Tacoma, he told me it was a 350 bored .040, which it is cuz both the block and pistons are stamped and i measured the bore size and it is right. I am not sure of the year or what it came out of.

Found it

Hey, thanks for the help, the number i gave you was wrong, I found the casting number on the back left corner of the block, 3970010, it is a chevy 350 between the years of 69-80 with a four bolt main. Thanks for you help. I do have another question, what is a reliable camshaft to put in my 357. I want it to put out about 400 horsepower.
