casting numbers

I just got a used olds 307 motor but not sure what year this block is. If someone could help me out it would be of great help to me. Cast number is 6509 and i also have another 307 with cast numbers 3161. If someone could please help me with some years on these casting numbers. Thank you.

Don't know what you've got, those aren't GM casting numbers. 307 blocks will look like:

3956632
3970020
3970024

There the GM numbers over the timing cover. This is an oldsmobile block, not a Chevy 307. it has 3161 GM 5.0L G over the timing chain. There is no other casting numbers on the block besides a 344 over the back side of the block.

There is no S/N pad on the block. Like ive seen on other web sites. Ive looked for the numbers on the side of the block and there is nothing but a big 5 L on both sides. Im stricky a SBC guy not an olds guy so this oldsmobile is something totally new to me. Im just doing a mild build on this motor since its just a work car. I just need to know what im starting with so i can start getting parts ordered for this motor. All i know is im workin with a boat anhor lol. So im guessin from one post its 81-85 olds 307, since they seemed to have changed something in 85 since all the parts im looking at end in 85. Is that the year they went from a flat tappet to a roller? Any more info anyone can give me is of great help to me.
